Meet Samya, the man behind the teams behind the work.
I was born into a publishing family in Calcutta, but my career as one of Asia’s most experienced creative leaders has never been by the book.
I didn’t go to design school. I don’t have a degree in advertising. Or even Marketing 101. What I do have is a lifetime of diverse experiences that have shaped my approach to creativity and communication. My knowledge, insight and leadership skills are all derived through doing. And doing and doing and doing. Because I’m also obsessed by detail and never truly satisfied. (Unless I’m watching Wong Kar-Wai. Now those films are beyond perfection.)
I have 20+ years' of experience in leading creative studios famous for strategic thinking, disruptive ideas and high quality craft. Currently, I am heading YouTube's regional Creative Studio in APAC. Previously, I established and headed Airbnb’s APAC creative department, the first in-house studio outside their San Francisco headquarters. My time at Airbnb instilled a deep appreciation for their mantra of BIGGER. BETTER. FEWER. FURTHER. I leave filled with pride, fuelled by purpose, and excited for the future.
My real strength lies in working with local markets to come up with original ideas. Ideas that are steeped in cultural nuance, but built on such strong human insights and authentic stories that they have the potential to go global.
Creative projects from APAC studios and agency partners have been recognised at a number of the most prestigious award shows around the world. In some cases, we even scooped the top spot.
